The hidden economy of inefficient writing

Inefficient writing is a business cost you can reduce.

If you sent out a document consisting of 407 words to 100 people who each earn an average of $150/hr, then if they average 54 seconds to read the document, each person would cost the business $2.25 in reading time. For their 100 employers, this is $225 in reading time.

Suppose our readers get through 20 documents in a working day and average 3 minutes on each one. It will cost each business $9,000, or $900,000 in reading time over 100 businesses.

If, however, documents were leaner and meaner, much money can be saved on business reading time.

Our business writing and report writing expert, Ron Denholm, gives training on how to make your writing more efficient and readable.

About jdonbavand

I am a trainer of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and Crystal Reports. I have called my blog "If Only I'd Known That...." because I hear it so many times in training sessions. In fact, if only I had a £100 (or 150 Aussie dollars)for every time someone says "If only I'd known that." ....
