Microsoft Word – Create bullets or numbering using the keyboard

If you want to create a bulleted or numbered list in Word, you can do so without taking your hands off the keyboard.

To start a bulleted list:

  • Type in an asterisk (*) or a hyphen (-) followed by a space. Next type in your text and then press the Enter key. The asterisk or hyphen will be converted to a bullet point, and a second bullet point will appear next to your cursor position.

To create a numbered list:

  • Type in 1. or 1) followed by a space. Next type in your text and then press the Enter key. Word will convert this to an automatically numbered list, with the number 2 automatically appearing next to your cursor position.
