Microsoft Excel – column numbers instead or column letters

I was at a client site and one of the trainees opened Excel and we found that instead of having letters across the top of each column there were numbers.

This is known as R1C1 or reference style. To switch to have columns as letters, if using Excel 2007, go to the Office button, then click Excel Options. On the Formulas tab, in the Working with formulas section, uncheck the R1C1 reference style box. Click OK.

If using Excel 2010, go to File – Options. On the Formulas tab, in the Working with formulas section, uncheck the R1C1 reference style box. Click OK.

If using Excel 2003, go to Tools – Options. Click the General tab. Uncheck the R1C1 reference style option. Click OK.

About jdonbavand

I am a trainer of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and Crystal Reports. I have called my blog "If Only I'd Known That...." because I hear it so many times in training sessions. In fact, if only I had a £100 (or 150 Aussie dollars)for every time someone says "If only I'd known that." ....
